elaine-with-drumTwo of the fall 2009 Forever Learning classes at the Carnegie Museum were presented by Elaine Grinnell, a Jamestown S'Klallam Elder and Irene Wyman, retired educator. Grinnell is nationally known for her basketry skills and storytelling artistry, while Wyman focused her class on the history of the Port Angeles schools. Other subjects covered in the series included a staff presentation of archival conservation techniques, a PowerPointirene-wymans-class presentation on Port Angeles, early upper Elwha settlers, and the Spruce Railroad.

Alice Bretches Alexander, author and Peninsula Daily News monthly columnist, signed copies of her new book "Early Settlers on the Upper Elwha" atalice-bretches-alexander a museum reception in December.     E

lizabeth "Missy" Barlow was the featured artist at the Second Weekend Art Event in January. Now 89 and a resident at Laurel Park, Barlow greeted more than 100 guests who came during the special two-day exhibit to see an amazing collection of her work in the lower level meeting room at the museum. Although her favorite medium is oil, some of her most remarkable work has been done with dryer lint that has been colored and fashioned into images that are both beautiful and unusual.
