PORT ANGELES, WASH. —The Clallam County Historical Society begins its History Tales 2011-2012 season on Sunday, October 2, at 2:30 p.m. in the Port Angeles City Council Chambers, 321 East 5th Street. Historical Society staff will present a program on Thomas Aldwell. While best known for his construction of the Lower Elwha dam, Aldwell’s interests were many. Dona Cloud, Historical Society research librarian, prepared “Good for You Tommy—There was a Damn Sight More to You Than a Dam” to highlight Aldwell’s life as a member of the Olympic Peninsula community. He was a self-starter who came to Port Angeles to find his destiny. He believed that with hard work, he would be a successful businessman. And his belief held true. In 1953, Billy Welsh, a local newspaperman, described Thomas T. Aldwell as a man that was “never the soul of diplomacy. He burned with a holy fire and moved with a sense of urgency.” History Tales is free and open to the public.
